Welcome to our new blog series, A Peek Behind the Pennant. At EPC we believe that a name is special simply because it is lovingly chosen. While some parents agonize over a name for years, others have a clear front runner from day one. Whatever the case, our monthly posts will shine light on the "why" behind the chosen name of one of our customer's little ones, the inspiration, meaning, and hopes it carries. Maybe one of these stories will inspire you, as well!
For this month of August 2024, we begin with West Andrew, son of Kim Olsen (@thevintagemodern). Kim explained, "I liked one syllable, simple names that are unique but not too wild". Both she and her husband had seen the name "West" before (his old colleague's son, someone she came across on Instagram) and took a little mental note. But as soon as they discovered West's gender during the first trimester, they knew it was the name for him. From that point on, Kim shared, she only grew increasingly eager to meet him and see what her West would be like.
The middle name was a more straightforward pick, as "Andrew" is Kim's husband's middle name. She shared with us, "It was West's grandfather's middle name, too, so I liked the interplay between a new, simple first name with a more traditional middle name." What a fun contrast!
The spelling she knew would be simply "West," as "Wesley" and "Wes" are both more common than she prefers. She did admit she's heard of the nicknames "Westie" and "Wild West," to which she simply remarked "Oh boy." Ha!
We love a name and appreciate you giving us a peek behind your "West" pennant, Kim!
West's pennant seen here is: light blue background, mustard letters, sage siding.
