Eventide Steps Inside: Cormac's Room

Eventide Steps Inside: Cormac's Room

This feature on Eventide Steps Inside is particularly special because it features a room of Eventide's own, Joanna, our beloved Production Manager. Joanna brings such efficiency, calmness, and care to our team and we are beside ourselves watching her in this new role as Mom to dear Cormac Hamilton.

So, let's talk about Cormac - such a beautifully unique, strong name. Joanna and Avery came across it during their honeymoon in Ireland and, partnered with his cool, German surname (which we'll leave out here for privacy's sake, but trust us...), the combo is enviable. Hamilton was chosen for the middle name as it's been passed down the paternal side for generations. What a great pairing of a unique first and traditional middle. We're biased, but really love it.

Joanna describes their North Charleston home as "an ode to color," and Cormac's nursery certainly fits that bill. What a incredible room! With the amazing creativity she seems to apply to everything she touches, Joanna turned a fabric pattern she found into a mural across the nursery wall! She discovered the fabric at a quilting shop in Blowing Rock, NC and sketched out her idea on an iPad, picking her colors based on the fabric. Before this mural could materialize, the guest room that would become Cormac's nursery would need a lot of love. A discovery of multiple wallpaper layers led Joanna and Avery toward bead board and trim, a feature they ended up liking but didn't anticipate. Add nearly 30 hours of painting(!!!) and the vision came to life!

Beyond the walls, Cormac's nursery displays traditional design with use of primarily secondhand furniture, as well as a generously-gifted, modern crib and rocker. Of note, Joanna also made a quilt that she backed with the mural inspiration fabric! What a meaningful space for this very loved little boy.

Finally, we can't forget about her Eventide Custom Name Pennant! Joanna shared that since she's seen thousands of pennants come through the studio, she definitely had her opinions going in. "But," she confessed, "I didn't realize how much I would struggle with actually picking for myself. I think I changed ten times before I just pulled the trigger." She knew she wanted burnt orange to tie into the orange in the rug and mural, and mint is one of her favorites of the colors we sell. The navy siding she thought would coordinate well with the quilted hanging she made. It definitely brings the color and style this room radiates.

Joanna, we are in awe of this nursery and the labor of love it clearly was. It is so precious to imagine all the times you will get to tell Cormac, "I made this for you." Surely those moments will be countless. Thank you so much for sharing this glimpse into his darling space!
